I've been visiting Patong for extended holidays for 22 years. I've always felt safe and never gave it much thought. It seems now being a tourist there comes with a heightened element of danger.

Retired expat, lived jn Phuket 4 1/2 years. Left 11/2022. Changed for the wirse- too many russkies, overbuilding, horrid traffic Worse now. But ok to visit in low season But never Patong- . Grotesque dump inhabited by freaks and scam artists. Stay away.

Stop going to Phuket Tourists, There are far more better places to vist.

It's time to investigate all new construction and proposed projects. Phuket may have already hit build out. The land and infrastructure can only handle so much.

Any one remember Patomg hill road two years ago after rain washed all the limestone shale from underneath it that resulted in the total loss of a section of the road,Phukets a sandstone shale Island so construction on a base like that is not easy especially with the rainfall here over the last week,but accidents like this are rare here.

Close the whole Top of a mountain with a km² concrete and the water will find another way running down...so it did! It was just a matter of time and i am glad i dont live on this side of the mountain in Kata - Karon anymore. I had a house there once and i remember how much water running down the mountain already in Rainseasons before the BigBuddha was there

Tourists. Understand this. Phuket is a small local community. It may be a party island. But the people here are just as you are in your home towns. They are familiar with each other, they respect one another; and they don’t deserve to be dehumanised. If you come here, have your fun, in patong. But remember. Not everyone and not everywhere here is like Patong.

It's not for the workers and/or customer's benefit. If you haven't noticed, TH is on a mad scramble to regain the tourist dollar, and if making access to their daughters easier will boost income - no problem.

The BIG BUDDHA is a huge money making machine. In my opinion it started from there, due to the large water masses from an area which is nearly closed by Concrete ... What we need in Phuket is MORE CONCRETE ... check some of the first Google Maps pictures out and then the pictures from nowadays... 70% of the Natural forests of our island are just GONE!!!

People who I’ve spoken to about Phuket have all said the same thing avoid it like the plague and that’s coming from people who have visited it over many years, they said it used to be beautiful and safe now greed has taken over and ruined it plus the influx of over tourism has killed the place. My friends still visit Thailand but stay away from Phuket and other places that are highly over crowded with tourists, they have given me a list of places that still are safe and are mainly occupied by Thais they say these places are the best way to enjoy Thailand and appreciate their culture so will be booking soon and hope to be there by the end of the year.

Honestly, I've written five books about Phuket. How come Mackay gets all the love?

let's be real if u hear an attack its triggered by something not acceptable- in majority of cases, Thai people wouldn't usually attack foreigner because of looking bad; being punished by system etc., I was not there, but I have witness injustices bullies n toxic people. so wouldn't this scenario be typical a person insulting another because of different status and occupation? I definitely not saying this is what happened but sounds quite real outcome. The not predicted scenario was that the women didn't tolerate the action/ comment she received.
